My name is Peggy and I am a food photographer and writer looking to engage foodies and others that share my passion for food.
I have always loved photography, collecting boxes of old film photographs since I was a kid. I am fascinated by natural light and still find myself in awe of the wonder that is photography. Throw some food in front of my lens and I am in love!
When photographing food I like to present it in its natural state and prefer natural images over highly edited images. I don’t add elements to food to make it appear unrealistic, in fact I celebrate its natural flaws.
I have recently left the full time corporate world to follow my dream of living creatively. I am self-taught, both in photography and in the kitchen, and have a unique style that encompasses my Nordic background and my love for all things pretty. I develop and style my own shoots, working hands on from start to finish (yes I even wash up myself *gasp*). I find the process of cooking and styling just as important as photographing, and thoroughly enjoy every step of this process.
Why cake crumbs & beach sand?
My blog was inspired by my love of the simple things in life. Over dinner one night a friend asked if I had considered blogging. I hadn’t, but then I couldn’t stop thinking about. Being a writer I have always had plenty to say, my blog was the perfect space for me to share what’s in my head (even if only to myself some of the time).
Over the first year it was primarily a space to connect with working mums and to share my insights and experiences as a full time working mum, with some recipes and photography thrown in. I found however that it started to lean more towards my love of food. Early 2012 I finally took a leap and ended over two decades of full time employment to pursue my love of writing and food photography, so here I am.
Cake crumbs and beach sand are the simple things that make me smile – food and the beach. I once told a friend that I love eating good cupcakes in bed after a wedding or night out. With an aghast look on his face he asked, “What about the crumbs?” The crumbs are the best bits.
Cake crumbs & beach sand was recently nominated for the Kidspot Voices of 2013 blogging awards. We then made it into the top 100 finalists, landing us in the Top 25 Food & Wellbeing Bloggers list.
